Something called the Turing tests was introduced in 1950 by Alan Turing. The test was straight forward. Can a human distinguish a conversation with another human vs a machine. The human would sit in one room and the computer in another. So it went. Over the years a human could easily detect the communication was with another human or a machine. That was until a milestone was reached in 2025 with GPT-4.5.
Using GPT-4.5, 73% of the time, the human could not tell the difference between texting with a human vs a machine. This was a huge milestone and leaves us open for what the next universally acceptable test will be, but that will be a post for later.
